There were 3 vines that we transplanted up into the old parking lot last year. Just like the fruit trees my hero of a husband dug the most enormous holes for the transplanted grapes. It made all the difference! Even with the trauma of a late season transplant a year after they were planted the grapes in the big holes are at least twice as large as the ones in the back yard.
We didn't think our transplants would take off, for another year, so we just built round chicken wire cages for them. They have quickly outgrown those modest trellises and have started up the old privacy fence. I am grateful since the old fence is rough looking and a few years away from it's turn on the to-do list of this 116 year old house!
Ok, well one in the parking lot has under preformed.
